Weekend Palanca
Just think about
how many people support Unidos en Cristo. Hundreds of letters from
prisons and other Christian "walks" around the country and
the world arrive for each Weekend! Please prayerfully think about the
palanca you send for the upcoming Weekends. You might write an encouraging
note ... honor the Weekenders with a contribution to a food shelf,
homeless shelter, or favorite charity ... or, consider enclosing a
check with a palanca note to help cover the weekend expenses.
Address
palanca to:
Men of Unidos en Cristo #____
Women of Unidos en Cristo # ____
Cash
donations for a specific weekend may sent as well. Please note what
weekend you are honoring on your check and make it payable to: Unidos
en Cristo # ____
Send
via U.S. Mail to the current Palanca Coordinator:
Gordy Nagel
514 Del Rio Drive
Chanhassen, MN
55317
eMail to: nagel@unidosencristo.com
Please
allow adequate time for mail delivery. Palanca will be delivered in
time for each weekend.
When
sending Palanca to the Rollo Room, please be sure to include enough
for EIGHT at each table, and EIGHT at the Leadership table. Palanca
for the Rollo Room must include enough for all Weekenders and the
Team
or it CAN NOT be distributed in the Rollo Room. It will, however, be
placed into the Weekender Palanca Bags. If you are unable to stop
by
the 4th Day Room on the weekend to drop off your palanca, please send
it to the Palanca Coordinator as listed above, for delivery to the
specific
weekend.
Note: Often an extra
table is added on the Women's weekend. Please check the latest Palanca
Press to determine how many tables will
be on a specific weekend.
Weekend
Prayer Vigil
Will you pray (for
just one hour) as part of a 72 hour prayer vigil on behalf of a particular
Unidos en Cristo weekend? Specify the weekend # on the weekend
prayer vigil and follow the prompts to submit your commitment to
pray for a specific time. You will be contacted to confirm your prayer
commitment and to provide you with prayer suggestions.
JOG
(Joy of Giving)
Each weekend is sponsored by Brothers and Sisters in Christ who lovingly
share in the JOY of passing on God's Love to the weekenders. Sharing
their time, talents, finances; and, by being His hands, arms, fingers,
feet, ears, mouth, and whatever else is needed to exemplify His great
LOVE for each weekender. Team members and 4th Day Community are given
an opportunity to share in the Joy of Giving (JOG) to pass God's Love
on to future Unidos en Cristo weekends either when serving on a Team
or during the Sunday night Clausuras, at the end of each weekend.
Weekenders
are given their first opportunity to share in the Joy of Giving (JOG)
following their weekend. No one ever needs to contribute out of a
feeling of obligation or in amounts beyond their means. While we cannot
repay the gifts we receive from God, we are encouraged to "pass it
on." One
way to accomplish this task is through generous and joyful giving in
support of future Unidos en Cristo weekends.
Unidos en Cristo Finances
The Unidos en Cristo Community currently has expenses of approximately
$53,000 per year (2005 data, based on 4-paired weekends). The largest
portion of the expenses go toward supplies (Bibles, crosses, songbooks,
flowers, etc), food, printed material (leadership/team manuals, weekend
materials) and communications (printing and mailing the Palanca Press
to 4000+ 4th Day homes).
In addition, there are expenses in maintaining the storage trailers that
house the Unidos en Cristo equipment/supplies (mattresses, Stations of
the Cross materials, candles, Rollo Room - Kitchen - Palanca - 4th Day
Room props, etc) and, of course, insurance on the trailers is essential.
The average Unidos en Cristo weekend costs approximately $7250 (based
on 36 weekenders).
Team members are invited to donate palanca roughly equivalent to the
cost of their meals on a weekend. The current (2002) suggestion is $50.00.
Some are able to donate only their time and travel expenses, while others
may contribute financially. The income to defray expenses has come from
the JOG (Joy of Giving) contributions, large and small, from new Cursillistas
who want to 'pass it on' to future weekends.
Other 4th Dayers have also sent in unsolicited cash donations as palanca,
memorials or through employee United Way Contributions. Periodically,
the Unidos en Cristo Council will include an invitation in the Palanca
Press inviting cash contributions to help meet the needs of the community.
The Unidos en Cristo community values all contributions, large and small,
as ALL go towards growing God's Kingdom. Checks may be made payable
to Unidos en Cristo and sent to the Council Treasurer as noted
in each Palanca Press.
Memorials
Memorials
given in memory of Cursillistas may be sent to the Unidos en Cristo
Council Treasurer and will be acknowledged in the Palanca Press. Please
send memorials to:
Teresa VanBatavia,
UEC Treasurer
404 Union Terrace Lane N.
Plymouth, MN 55441
If you know of
a Cursillista who has entered his or her Fifth Day, please advise Kathy
Walker, Communications Editor (952-891-4660 or
email: walker@unidosencristo.com) for names to
be included in the Palanca Press. Others in the
Fourth Day Community may have no other way of knowing
special friends in Christ have now entered His glorious
presence.
United
Way Contributions
Did you know that you can designate some of your United Way contribution
to Unidos en Cristo? When you fill out your United Way contribution
form, find the location to designate funds to a 501 (c) (3) organization.
List the name of the organization as "Unidos en Cristo" -
404 Union Terrace Lane N., Plymouth, MN 55441. That is all there is
to it! As with all United Way contributions, these will be tax deductible,
too. |
